Rent control is a highly charged, emotional issue. REALTORS® oppose rent control for a variety of valid reasons. There are a number of strategies that they can employ to defeat rent control at the ballot box or at city hall. However, the best strategy against rent control is a proactive housing program. This requires an understanding of local housing issues, considerable dialogue about housing policies, and constructive involvement in the local political and planning process.
