Leslie Appleton-Young, Senior Vice President & Chief Economist, C.A.R.
Leslie directs the activities of the Association's Member Information Team.  She oversees the analysis of housing market and brokerage industry trends, broker relations, and membership development activities.  She is also closely involved in the Association's strategic planning efforts and is a well-known speaker in California’s real estate community. Before joining C.A.R. in 1984, Leslie was a consultant with Telesis Inc. in Rhode Island.  She also spent several years working as a research associate at the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and as an instructor at the University of Pennsylvania.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and her Masters from the University of Pennsylvania.

Colleen Badagliacco

Howard Fallman, C.A.R. Managing Senior Counsel, C.A.R.
Howard Fallman is Managing Senior Counsel with the California Association of REALTORS®.  He has been with C.A.R. since 1995.  His time is primarily divided between managing the C.A.R. "Hotline", answering member questions, and working with the Standard Forms Committee. Additionally, Mr. Fallman frequently presents outreaches on legal matters as well as being an instructor for C.A.R. on the C.A.R. contracts and Risk Management. Prior to becoming an attorney he was a professional musician, playing saxophone with Les Brown's Band of Renown for over thirty years. Howard received his bachelor's degree from California State University in Sacramento, majoring in Music, and his JD Cum Laude from Pepperdine Law School in 1990.

Barbara Betts

Jana Gardner, Associate Counsel, C.A.R. 
Jana Gardner is an Associate Counsel with the California Association of REALTORS®.  Since joining C.A.R. in 2014, she has primarily focused on advising members through the legal “Hotline” and preparing legal resources such as the Legal Q&A’s and Quick Guides. Additionally, Jana presents outreaches to members on legal topics and presents the monthly “Legal Tools Talk” on C.A.R.’s Facebook page, as well as teaching education classes. Prior to joining C.A.R she practiced commercial real estate law focusing on the acquisition, financing, and leasing of commercial properties. Jana received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from San Diego State University and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Southern California.

Vanessa Bergmark

Gov Hutchinson, Assistant General Counsel and Vice President, C.A.R.
Gov Hutchinson is Assistant General Counsel/Vice President of the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®.  Gov has been with C.A.R. since 1985 and manages C.A.R.’s Member Legal Services Program in Los Angeles.  Gov advises REALTORS® through the “Hotline” on all aspects of real estate law and he trains and supervises other “Hotline” attorneys.

Gov received his Bachelor’s Degree in History from Princeton University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania.

He has written for CALIFORNIA REAL ESTATE magazine, co-authored C.A.R. continuing education courses and is a master instructor for the Education Division of C.A.R. with certification from the Department of Real Estate.  He also regularly speaks to Associations/Boards of REALTORS®, affiliated trade associations, city and county bar associations and major real estate firms.

Diana Bull

Neil Kalin, Assistant General Counsel, C.A.R. 
Neil D. Kalin joined the CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® in 1987 and is now Assistant General Counsel.  He is the senior legal advisor to C.A.R.'s Standard Forms Committee, provides advice to C.A.R. members on the Legal Hotline, and writes many of C.A.R.'s Appellate Court Briefs.  Neil is an arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and has served as a Judge Pro Tem and a volunteer mediator and arbitrator for the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

Neil has earned his CIPS designation (Certified International Property Specialist) from N.A.R. in 2001.  In 1982, Neil received his Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the University of Illinois.  Also in 1982, he received his Certificate of Public Accountancy (CPA).  Neil was graduated from UCLA School of Law in 1985.

Sandy Darling

Jordan Levine, Deputy Chief Economist, C.A.R.
Jordan Levine is the Deputy Chief Economist at the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.), a statewide trade organization of real estate professionals with more than 190,000 members. Jordan helps to oversee all housing market research at C.A.R., including market statistics, survey research, industry trends, and policy analysis for C.A.R.’s legislative and governmental affairs efforts.

Jordan has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Master’s degree with Merit in International Economics from the University of Sussex.  Prior to joining C.A.R., Jordan worked in consulting as an economist and director of economic research where he oversaw all research and economic analysis on California’s economy and housing market, and regularly spoke to trade groups, public officials, businesses, and the media.

Samantha Oles, Senior Research Analyst, C.A.R.
Samantha Oles is the Senior Research Analyst at the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.), a statewide trade organization of real estate professionals with more than 190,000 members. Samantha manages all member- and consumer-oriented surveys, including survey design and development, data analysis, and report creation, and presents survey findings both internally and externally.

Samantha holds a graduate degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Roosevelt University as well as undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Human Development from Sonoma State University.  Prior to joining C.A.R., Samantha worked in consulting as a Senior Analyst of Strategic Research where she worked with both qualitative and quantitative data on projects across the U.S.

Lydia Gable

Sara Sutachan, Vice President, Industry Relations & Strategic Initiatives, C.A.R. 
Sara oversees industry relations, membership development and strategic initiatives for the Association. In this role she helps the Association establish vision, identify new and emerging opportunities and relationships and is responsible for implementing key strategic initiatives. Sara is closely involved in the Association’s strategic planning efforts and is a well-known speaker in California’s real estate community. Sara has a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Northridge in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Real Estate and a Master’s degree in Economics from California State
University, Los Angeles.

Eva Garcia

Oscar, Wei, Senior Economist and the Director of Research, C.A.R.
Oscar Wei is a senior economist and the director of research at the California Association of REALTORS® (C.A.R.), a statewide trade organization of real estate professionals with more than 200,000 members. He comanages the Research and Economic Department and oversees the operation of data analytics and survey research within the division. As an economist at C.A.R., Oscar provides regular updates on the economy, state and regional housing markets, consumer behaviors, and public policy issues. He has written articles and reports on subjects including housing supply, affordability, mortgage finance, homeownership, tax reform, and other topics related to the real estate industry. He contributes frequently to C.A.R.’s Monthly Housing Market Outlook Webinar, Housing Matters Podcast, and Market Snapshot. His work has been quoted in the Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Kiplinger’s, NPR, KFI, as well as other outlets.

Oscar has been with C.A.R. since 2003. Before that, he worked for a toy company as an analyst to conduct research on identifying kids’ trends and evaluate their global implications on the toy industry. Oscar has a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of California, Berkeley and a master’s degree in economics from the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
