California Series: Is Sacramento’s Affordable Housing About to Disappear?
Tuesday, May 1
3:30 - 5:00 P.M.
Sacramento Convention Center
Room 202 (enter through West Lobby – just above the registration area)
1400 J Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
The event is FREE and open to C.A.R. members but we ask that you register.
Register today and join C.A.R. CEO Joel Singer and some of the Sacramento Area's most prominent corporate and policy thought leaders as they examine workforce housing solutions for an expanding population.
California’s housing supply and affordability crisis threatens the state’s economy and its global leadership in the technology sector. With an emphasis on well-planned housing, economic development and access to world class universities, Sacramento is now home to a combination of established and startup tech ventures, as well as 17,000 commuters who travel to the Bay Area daily for work. Will the Capital City’s affordable housing become the latest victim of the housing crisis?
This panel discussion and audience Q&A session – presented by C.A.R.’s Center for California Real Estate - will explore the relationship between housing availability and community viability, perspectives on Sacramento’s trajectory based upon the current housing supply crisis, the appropriate role and leadership necessary by local government, statewide and regional business leaders, and ways Sacramento can capitalize on opportunities in the technology space.
Moderator: Joel Singer, CEO, California Association of REALTORS®
Sacramento Convention Center

The American Dream in Flames – Why Homeownership Really Matters
We all know homeownership is important but why does it REALLY matter? What do we lose, who do we lose, and how much do we lose if housing affordability continues to deteriorate? The benefits of homeownership go beyond just stability and basic shelter – health, happiness, education, wealth accumulation, personal achievement, and retirement are all impacted in significant ways. From a macro standpoint, the decline in homeownership and housing unaffordability hurts California’s economy by forcing more to out-migrate and discouraging businesses from coming to our state. Learn why homeownership, affordability, and equal housing opportunities are imperative for the real estate industry as C.A.R. CEO Joel Singer confronts these issues on a micro and macro level through personal stories, demographic data, and discusses the challenges of what’s to come.
