Housing Affordability isn’t just an issue that affects the less fortunate - it affects us all!
California’s Housing Crisis has priced out many working families from achieving the dream of homeownership. The unaffordable housing market is a result of a long-term shortfall in the development of housing units in California. If we don’t get families onto the first rung of the homeownership ladder, it will create long term challenges for our industry.
Our mission is to play an active role in addressing the ongoing housing affordability challenges facing California. HAF raises and distributes funds in partnership with local associations and other groups to promote housing and homeownership. C.A.R.'s HAF latest program is our first ever statewide Closing Cost Assistance Grant Program for underserved communities. The purpose is to help first-time homebuyers from members of underserved communities bridge the affordability gap by providing them with up to $10,000 in closing cost assistance. These homeownership gaps aren’t new and, for many groups, they’re getting wider. Experts suggest that lack of generational wealth is (can be) to blame, often leaving members of underserved communities with less funds to cover the closing costs and down payment for a home. Rather than just observe the trends, we’re taking action.
