The right to own, transfer and use real estate and housing is the underlying mission of the National Association of REALTORS®. Discrimination impedes that right by denying people access to the ownership and use of housing and inhibiting real estate professionals whose business is built on the ability of all people to buy, sell, lease and occupy real estate. Fair housing laws, which protect these rights, need strong enforcement. REALTORS® accept and expect that the law will be enforced. In fact, many REALTORS® are exercising their rights under the Fair Housing Act and their responsibilities as real estate professionals by filing complaints and helping others file complaints alleging housing discrimination.
The National Association of REALTORS® entered into the Fair Housing Partnership with HUD in recognition that REALTORS® are committed to fair housing and will seek training to learn how to put that commitment into practice. This commitment, coupled with enforcement of the law, will work to help REALTORS® consistently provide equal housing opportunities. Through the Fair Housing Partnership, the organizations developed guidelines and examples to help professionals in the housing industry better serve America's communities.
