C.A.R. is sponsoring one bill and supporting another to help address the root causes of the lack of housing supply.  C.A.R.-sponsored AB 571 would prohibit local governments from assessing affordable housing fees on the deed restricted affordable units contained within a density bonus application.  C.A.R. supports SB 6 mandates that a local government ministerially approve housing developments of at least 20 units per acre on lots zoned for office, retail, or commercial use.

C.A.R. Seeks Amendments to SB 9

C.A.R. is seeking amendments to SB 9 to address concerns that in the absence of safeguards that properties could be bought by developers in the more affordable and ethnically diverse areas of the state and once subdivided developed in ways which do not meet the needs of the communities in which the properties exist.

This past week also saw C.A.R in coalition with a wide range of groups continue to request the legislature to fund opportunities for homeownership in the May Budget Revise.  This follows up on the press conference of May 20 where C.A.R, the California Building Industry Association and Habitat for Humanity pressed for greater investments for homeownership in the budget.

Please also watch the video from the leader of the California State Senate, Senator Toni Atkins, speaking about the critical role REALTORS® plays in helping increase the state's housing supply and address the affordability crisis.

The legislation is part of C.A.R.’s Californians Need Housing Now initiative, which urges the Legislature to enact policies that address California’s worsening housing affordability and availability crisis with increased housing supply and fair housing reforms.
