Job Title: Communications Specialist - Editor 

Reports To: Member Communication Manager

Group: Communications

The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS is looking for a skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic Communications Specialist - Editor.  In conjunction with the Member Communication Manager, this position manages and has direct oversight and responsibility for the management, development and day-to-day production of the Association’s monthly magazine to ensure that this major communications vehicle to members is on time, accurate and informative. The Specialist will make decisions about content, graphics and what to cover in the magazine based upon industry knowledge. Position is responsible for writing and content development for a variety of other communication vehicles inclusive of several digital communication channels.  The Specialist will also write various newsletters and generate other types of content for busy communications and marketing department.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on magazine: including assigning, editing, and creating all content. Includes creating and producing digital content for the magazine as well as various email newsletters.
  • Use industry knowledge to determine and conceptualize issue themes.
  • Coordinate timely delivery of all articles and art per production schedule.
  • Copyedit entire publication and use discretion to determine if content hits the mark, needs a rewrite, or should be cut and reassigned.
  • Coordinate production flow on a daily basis with art director.
  • Write copy for various magazine columns, including news items.
  • Develop content for various digital communication vehicles.
  • Organize and execute all social media content in regard to magazine.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned. 
  • Write monthly newsletters.
  • Work with and secure freelance writers based on writers' strengths
  1. Assign articles.
  2. Secure relevant sources, as needed.

Minimum education required

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or related field

Minimum Experience Required

  • 2 years in a media content environment

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of PC and Mac computers.
  • Exceptional proofreading, editing, word processing, and journalistic skills.
  • Excellent writing and grammar skills.
  • Knowledge of digital media from a content perspective.
  •  Advanced level in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Create a culture of customer centricity within group and company
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Ability to function effectively in a variety of challenging situations and circumstances, including difficult project deadlines, demanding customers, tight budgets, and evolving goals and objectives
  • Highly organized and dependable with high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with co-workers, customers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive and positive manner
  • Excellent work ethic and attendance
  • Consistency in giving feedback regarding work progress, timetable and issues.
  • Knowledge of agile project management preferred
