CALL FOR ACTION: Reauthorize the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)

C.A.R and NAR Applaud Senate Passage of Flood Insurance Extension. The bill, which cleared the House last week, is expected to be signed into law by the President before tonight’s midnight deadline.

How to Respond to Red Alerts and Calls for Action
On occasion, C.A.R. asks REALTORS® to call their legislators to support or oppose proposed bills through Red Alerts and Calls for Action. However, some members may be a bit reluctant to pick up the phone to call their legislator’s office, fearing that they may not know what to say or that the process takes a long time. C.A.R. has produced a short video to show how easy it is to respond to Red Alerts and Calls for Action by making a quick phone call.

Get the latest Red Alert Updates.

Did you know there are more than 36,000 REALTOR® members in our state not registered to vote. Getting involved is key to protecting the issues important to the industry. Check the Voter Registration page often for upcoming election events and dates. Your vote matters for home ownership!
  • Follow @CARGovAffairs on Twitter™
Social media is also a great way to broadcast a red alert.  For those of you who are a little Twitter shy, here is  a quick "how to".

Host a C.A.R. Field Rep and Become a Super REALTOR ®
You already know what it takes to be an all-star REALTOR® in representing your clients and protecting their investments, but Super REALTORS® go above and beyond.  Super REALTORS do three things:

  • Vote: Register to vote and vote in every election.  Super REALTORS® read and learn about their local, state, and federal elections and check the endorsements from their local associations, C.A.R., and N.A.R.  Anyone eligible to vote can register online.  It is the fastest and easiest way to register.
  • Act: Sign up to be a Legislative Liaison and respond to all Red Alerts right away.  If you are receiving this email, it’s a good sign you have already signed up to be a Legislative Liaison.  It is extremely important that legislators hear from the REALTORS® in their district, nothing can change the mind of a lawmaker as much as hearing from the people they work for: the voters.  When C.A.R. needs you to call your legislator, you will get a Red Alert with instructions on how you can easily respond and make you your voice heard.
  • Contribute: Super REALTORS® give to the REALTOR® Action Fund.  In 2015, C.A.R. stopped legislation that would have cost an estimated $9,950, on average, to every REALTOR® in California.  But it costs an average of $148 per REALTOR® per year to fight the point of sale bills, independent contractor withholdings, transfer taxes on real estate transactions, statewide service taxes, and other costly threats to the real estate industry.  REALTORS can give through their local associations or they can contribute online
  • Invite a Field Rep:  The easiest way for you and your office to become Super REALTORS® is to invite a C.A.R. Field Representative to speak at your next office meeting.   Field Representatives will also provide a legislative update from Sacramento and will help answer questions you might have about C.A.R.  Learn more.

Join the REALTOR® Broker Involvement Program
Protect your business by joining the 6,000 brokers who have already become a part of C.A.R.'s Broker Involvement Program.  It's free and it's simple!  Click HERE for more information on Broker Involvement.

C.A.R.'s Field Rep Program:
Field representatives are available to visit local associations and help promote member political involvement, as well as assist in developing a local strategy to increase member participation in local government issues and increase REALTOR® Action Fund fundraising. Through these visits, field representatives promote overall member involvement in C.A.R.’s political programs by encouraging members to register to vote and vote in every election, become a Legislative Liaison, respond to Red Alerts and contribute to the REALTOR® Action Fund.  Find out more.
