That is why I am asking you to share your story. Whether you are hoping to buy, trying to buy, or already own a home, your experience matters. Your story can help make homeownership real for California’s next leaders and show what needs to change to keep it within reach.
The CALIFORNIA ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, as part of its ongoing Homeownership Matters campaign, may share these stories with state policymakers. The goal is to put real voices and experiences behind the housing challenges Californians are facing, so leaders better understand how their decisions affect people who are trying to buy, keep, or plan for a home.
There is no right answer and no perfect script. Tell us what homeownership means for your life, your family, or your future. What has made buying a home difficult? What have you had to compromise on? What would owning a home make possible for you or someone you love?
You can write a short message or record a brief video using your phone or computer. Start with what feels most personal to you: your first name, your city, and why homeownership matters. By sharing your experience, you can help leaders understand the real people behind California’s housing challenges, and why expanding homeownership opportunities must remain a priority.

Homeownership is an important part of California’s future. It helps families build stability, supports local communities, and creates opportunities for long-term financial security. As election season approaches, voters have an opportunity to ask candidates where they stand on policies that can make owning a home more attainable.
C.A.R.’s Vote Homeownership campaign provides helpful resources and questions you can use to learn more about housing issues such as affordability, housing supply, first-time buyer support, and community stability. These issues affect whether Californians can buy, sell, or remain in the communities they call home.
