Mega Issue 1 Decreasing reliance on personal service
relationships among consumers coupled with skepticism and questioning of
the REALTOR® value proposition.
SBO .1 Promote, educate, and increase awareness of the REALTOR®
as the knowledgeable and trusted advisor for the real estate consumer.
SBO .2 Provide resources to California REALTORS® to increase
their understanding of consumer behavior as it relates to the real estate
transaction.
SBO .3 Educate consumers on how buying a home is different from
other purchases and why using a REALTOR® is critical to a successful
transaction.
Mega Issue 2 Lack of distinction and relevance among
consumers between REALTOR®-provided data and data from
non-REALTOR® providers.
SBO.1 Reestablish organized real estate MLS data and sites as
the “go-to” sources for reliable real estate information for consumers,
practitioners, the media, and other users.
SBO.2 Publicly differentiate MLS/REALTOR®-organization data
from non-REALTOR data in terms of quality, completeness, and timeliness.
SBO.3 Explore and develop strategic partnerships with
non-REALTOR® data providers in an effort to drive business to REALTORS®.
Mega Issue 3 Increasing threat to REALTOR®
viability and profitability
SBO .1 Develop strategies/technology products & services,
that keep the REALTOR® in the center of the transaction, and maximize
consumer satisfaction and REALTOR® profitability.
SBO .2 Prepare members to succeed in a changing real estate
environment.
SBO .3 Utilize legislative and regulatory vehicles to improve
the business environment.
Mega Issue 4 Increasing adverse impact of housing
affordability and availability on homeownership and real estate
investment.
SBO.1 Promote the legislative adoption of a housing policy at
all levels of government to improve affordability and availability.
Actively encourage municipalities to adhere to their own existing standards
and building guidelines.
SBO .2 Participate in promoting legislation at all levels of
government that creates a freedom for developers to build housing.
SBO .3 Promote the inclusion of housing supply in private,
public and public/private programs to provide incentives for businesses to
locate and/or expand in California communities.
SBO .4 Identify and implement programs that create a more
positive perception of affordable housing on the part of REALTORS® and the
general public.
Mega Issue 5 Identify and support candidates and causes
that enhance REALTOR® influence at all levels of government.
SBO .1 Mobilize members to participate in the legislative and
political process.
SBO .2 Encourage increased REALTOR® participation in appointed
and voluntary public and quasi-public positions.
SBO .3 Ensure that the impact of political funds is maximized
through quantitative measurement and evaluation of actual results.
SBO .4 Encourage, develop and participate with existing
coalitions to respond to “quality of life” issues and the preservation of
private property rights.
Mega Issue 6 Meet the challenges of the growing
diversity of the membership and general public.
SBO .1 Increase the active participation of REALTORS® and
licensees from diverse backgrounds in organized real estate at the local,
state, and national levels to ensure that our membership better represents
the diversity of the state’s population.
SBO .2 Develop and refine products and services that effectively serve
the needs of increasingly diverse REALTORS®.
SBO .3 Develop programs and tools to assist REALTORS® and licensees in
becoming more successful in the state’s increasingly diverse environment.
