C.A.R.'s Member Legal Services Department provides C.A.R. members with the latest in legal information to give our members a competitive edge and minimize legal exposure.  This legal information is available through a variety of resources:  

Legal Articles (Q&As)

C.A.R's Legal Department offers legal articles, some in question and answer format, on over 200 subjects.  The articles are organized alphabetically and also by category. We also provide legal updates.

Legal Hotline

Members may call the C.A.R. Legal Hotline at (213) 739-8282, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., for professional and confidential real estate legal advice from C.A.R. attorneys. Due to limited staffing the Saturday Hotline service is only for questions regarding active transactions. C.A.R. members who are broker-owners, office managers, or Designated REALTORS® may contact the Member Legal Hotline at (213) 739-8350.  Legal questions may also be submitted by fax at (213) 480-7724 or email to legalhotline@car.org.  THIS IS A MEMBERS-ONLY SERVICE!

Legal Action Fund 

C.A.R. proactively defends your real estate profession in the appellate courts.  C.A.R.'s Legal Action Fund contributed to favorable decisions in many landmark cases in which C.A.R. had filed amicus curiae (friend of the court) briefs.  For questions about the Legal Action Fund, please contact, Neil Kalin, Assistant General Counsel, at neilk@car.org.

California Real Estate  Magazine Legal Column

Each month there appears a legal column in California Real Estate magazine discussing the latest cases and statutesimpacting REALTORS® and property owners.  This legal column includes an Ask An Attorney feature providing answers to commonly-asked legal questions and issues.  For questions about the Legal Column in the magazine, please contact Robert Bloom, Supervising Senior Counsel, at robertb@car.org.
