The key elements of a successful local legislative day are:

- Gain cooperation and participation from your local government officials.
- Coordinated transportation arranged by your local AOR or Regional Alliance.
- Social activity withyour members, government officials and their staff.
- Free food.
- Use of your IMPAC orBORPAC Funds.
The agenda should include the following options:
- Have your members attend the City Council or County Board meeting.
- Meet with various real estate related department heads.
- Office visit with City Council members or County Board Members.
- Meet with the Mayor, City Attorney, City Controller or other City/Countywide office holders.

To ensure that your Local Legislative Day is a success, please also do the following:

- Have your local BORPAC or IMPAC Trustees approve funding for the event.
- Send letters to your local official to participate in the event and request that they save the date and also invite them a minimum of six weeks in advance.
- Notify your participating members of the upcoming event, a minimum of four weeks in advance.
- Arrange transportation for participating Realtors; ride a train, charter a bus or carpool. Have your local transit agency help plan and arrange free or discounted transportation.
- Send a written request asking that your participating members be acknowledged during the Council/County Board meeting. Have your Board president be prepared to speak briefly.
- Publicize the event to your Govt. members, Affairs or LGR committee members – via email letters or your association newsletter.
- Take photos and get your members acknowledged in the local media outlets, send out a pre and post news release.
