NAR requires that every REALTOR®, in order to maintain membership in the Association of REALTORS®, takes an ethics class every four (4) years (“quadrennial”). Failure to do so will result in suspension and possible termination from the Association. 2008 is the fourth and final year of the current quadrennial REALTOR® ethics training cycle. You must fulfill the REALTOR® ethics training requirement before December 31, 2008.
What classes satisfy the NAR requirement? C.A.R. asked NAR if the California DRE ethics course requirements comply with NAR policy. C.A.R. was given the general rule that Local Associations have the discretion to determine if an ethics class meets the minimum learning objectives required by NAR. So you must check with your Local Association to verify acceptance of an ethics course you may have taken.
NAR offers a free NAR Quadrennial Ethics course online at www.realtor.org/coetraining.
(This course does not meet California DRE license renewal requirements.)
