Guidelines for the Conduct of Campaigns for C.A.R. Elected Office
1. Campaign TimingCandidates may announce their intentions at any time. A campaign steering committee may be formed at any time, with thenumber of members of such committee not to exceed the number of C.A.R. Regions. Formal campaign activities may not begin until the day following the Nominating Committee's recommendations for Officers for the following year at the June C.A.R. Business Meetings and one year prior to the election for the Office being sought, with the exception of endorsements from the candidate's own Region and/or own local Association.Formal campaign activities include, but are not limited to:

Tools Used in Campaigns
There are no specific limits to be placed on candidate campaigns. Low key campaigning is encouraged. The C.A.R. web site should have links to candidate web sites at the time that formal campaign activities may begin.Endorsements
The Nominating Committee shall require that a candidate have the official endorsement of the candidate's own Region in order to be qualified for nomination by the Nominating Committee. Endorsements from other Regions and local Associations are permitted. Nominating Committee Members and Alternates are to remain neutral with respect to candidates for office until the Nominating Committee has officially determined the nominees. Endorsements shall not be binding on a Nominating Committee Member or Alternate, and shall not be announced at the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, or the Nominating Committee. Candidates may announce endorsements at Caucus Visits.Candidates Forum
The Candidates Forum should be on the agenda of the Member/Director Forum each January or a separate Candidate’s Forum should be conducted at the January meeting. Candidates should be limited to five minutes each for remarks. The Candidates Forum should be conducted so that the maximum number of Directors may become acquainted with the candidates for office, and should not be at the beginning or the end of the Member/Director Forum. Audience members shall be permitted to ask questions of the candidates.The procedure for the Candidate’s Forum shall be as follows: * Candidates for the office of President-Elect and Treasurer shall be invited
* Each presentation shall be limited to no more than five minutes
* Remarks shall focus on personal qualifications, proposed programs and issues
* Order of Appearance shall be determined by lot,with candidates for Treasurer all
speaking first, then candidates for President-Elect
* The President shall be the presiding officer for the Candidates Forum
* There will be a question and answer session
* Campaign materials may be placed at a table which will be provided at the entrance
to the roomCandidates for Office to serve Ex Officio on SPF Committee
Candidates for Office shall serve as Ex Officio, non-voting members of the Strategic Planning and Finance Committee.Caucus Visits
Each Region shall have sole discretion in establishing guidelines for candidate visits.Campaign Tone
Campaigns for election to C.A.R. Office are expected to be conducted in an appropriate manner, with restraint and integrity, in accord with the importance of these volunteer leadership positions.
Round Table for Future CandidatesA session for future candidates and others interested in leadership shall be held at the January meetings. A Past President or Past Treasurer shall be at each table.Candidate Orientation
An Orientation shall be held for all declared candidates at the June Meetings
