Committee Liaison Job Description
Revised: November 29, 2006
Committee Liaisons play a key role in facilitating two-way communications between Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs and the elected Leadership Team.
Committee Liaisons counsel and advise the Chairs and Vice Chairs of their assigned committees, and help the Committee Chairs to achieve the greatest possible levels of success with their responsibilities consistent with the Association's strategic plan and objectives. They assist committee leaders to stretch their wings, and are there to catch them if they are about to fall. Committee Liaisons share information with one another, and with the elected Leadership Team, so that big picture Association goals are not neglected when a challenge happens to arise in a single committee or with a particular issue, and so that complex or groundbreaking policy matters can be appropriately prioritized for discussion and debate in the relevant committees and by the Board of Directors. Through their efforts, Committee Liaisons facilitate improved communications across multiple committees when issues that cross traditionally defined committee responsibilities are under consideration.
Committee Liaisons also serve as the eyes and ears of the elected Leadership Team, to alert them of any potential problems or issues in a committee, and they play a valuable part in identifying future Association leaders.
Committee Liaisons are appointed by the incoming Association President to a one year term, and attend the meetings of the Executive Committee. Committee Liaisons are non-voting members of each committee to which they are assigned. They attend meetings of their assigned committees as the schedule permits.
