C.A.R. and NAR know that when brokers tell their agents that something is important, agents listen. This is especially true when brokers ask their agents to respond to Red Alerts or Calls-for-Action on legislative issues that will affect their business. That’s why both organizations have started broker involvement programs to increase member participation in Red Alerts and Calls-for-Action so that we can successfully pass good laws and fight bad legislation.
For the time being, NAR and C.A.R. have separate programs while NAR is upgrading its online platform. But both programs offer:
§
a system that is FREE to brokers;
§
a simple to use format; and
§
a program that takes minimal time and effort on the
Broker’s
part;
NAR’s Broker Involvement Program
NAR will alert you by phone and email (
brokeradvocacy@realtors.org) when there is a Broker Call for Action on federal legislation. Your personal email message and the Call for Action (CFA) will then be available for your review at the Broker Website. (When you enroll NAR staff will contact you to verify information and explain the use of the Broker Website to you). Since time is of the essence on legislation, you can agree that NAR will automatically send your message and the CFA to your agents if you do not respond with any comments or opt-out within two business days.
Responding quickly to CFA’s is critical to communicating a coordinated and powerful grassroots message.
C.A.R.’s Broker Involvement Program
C.A.R.’s program, used in Red Alerts on state legislation is less technical. When a broker’s help is needed, C.A.R. staff will contact you via email or phone to ask that you help and will forward a Red Alert. All the broker needs to do is forward it on to his or her agents; send an email to agents asking them to look for a Red Alert email from C.A.R.; or leave a firm-wide voice m
ail for agents asking them to respond.
