About Sawyer: Eight-year old Sawyer Sherwood lost his
valiant battle against ALD (adrenoleuko-dystrophy) on Tuesday, Sept.
30. A memorial service is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26,
at the Church of Religious Science in Vista.
Sawyer was diagnosed with ALD (adrenoleukodystrophy), a rare genetic
disease that affects boys and young men. ALD, also called Lorenzo's Oil
disease, destroys the myelin in the brain, leading to a debilitating
condition.
Sawyer's mom, Janis Sherwood, a REALTOR® with ERA Back to the Basics Realty
in Vista, started a foundation to raise awareness of the symptoms that are
so often misdiagnosed, as was the case with Sawyer. Early diagnosis is key
to treating ALD.
A fund for ALD research and education has been established at US Bank of
Vista, account for Benefit of Sawyer Sherwood, 1385 W. Vista Way, Vista, CA
92084, or to the Make A Wish Foundation.
Please call (760) 941-8316 if you have any questions or concerns.
